In 1923, my husband’s grandparents moved here from Milwaukee. They started a dairy farm on 80 acres and raised a family of 9 children. When his dad took over he bought an additional 100 acres of land and farmed until his passing in 1998. Our children are the 4th generation tofarm this land. We will be a century farm in 3 short years!
In 2000 when I was handling treated seed corn and pregnant with our second child, we started to seriously question the conventional way of farming. I grew up in Madison in the ‘60s and ‘70s, so I had a little of that "earth mother" in me and my husband never liked chemicals at all. We started down the road to organic farming and became a USDA Certified Organic farm in 2008.
In 2019, we were approached by a veteran-owned and company to grow hemp because of that certification. I was amazed at the testimonies I heard the veterans give about how CBD helped them. What began a venture to help humans, expanded to help our equine friends, and Hemp for Horses was born!
Large or small, hemp for all
Hi, I am Renee. Mother of three, farmer’s wife and riding instructor/stable owner. I started riding at 9 and am still going strong 50 years later! I have had a lot of bumps and bruises along the way, and the biggest not even from a horse. After being hit by a drunk driver four years ago, I couldn't throw a saddle up on my horse. Good thing I had kids to do the "heavy lifting" for me, but I wanted my independence back. I use CBD myself, and I could only imagine what it could do for horses. Hemp for Horses began on our farm with our own lesson horses. We have a riding program that serves autistic and at risk kids. Many times older horses with lots of life experience are the best for these riders, but often need support in their golden years. Feel free to reach out to me - I am happy to share what I have experienced and learned about hemp and CBD.
