My entire life I have had a deep passion for horses. My mother rode saddlebreds when she was young, and I remember loving to hear about all she did as a child. I started lessons at Hoof Beat Ridge in 1972. Mrs. Bennett let me come extra on weekends and clean tack for 8 hours for $0.50 an hour to earn the $4.00 it cost me to ride. In 1974, we moved to Appleton, WI and I was able to get my first horse. Not the smartest move, but she was beautiful (although untouched) saddlebred. Yee-hawwww! After a few months of being teased about riding English, I got a new horse and broke her out western and began barrel racing. The stable I worked at rented horses, so I would spend 8 hours a day in the saddle then go out in the woods at night to play tag. Those were the days...
